Past and Present
John,
The "goose" (honking midrange) is gone! I love it!

Buddy Emmons
Hi John,
Well, you can add me to the list of worshippers. I took my Nashville
400 apart and fitted your kit, gave it a good clean up and, just
like everybody else has found after fitting the modification,
I am very pleased with it. All those things that are written on
your website by players who have fitted it are dead true. I can
almost hear my Steel Guitar breathing. The sound is brighter,
the notes are clearer, almost acoustic sounding at times, the
treble frequencies really shimmer now and, strangest of all is
that the notes now seem to ring forever.
Good job.

My Nashville 400 returned last week with
the LeMay Super Mod. I played two shows this with it this weekend
(one indoors and one outside) and so had the chance to test it
out under a variety of conditions. It worked great! It produces
a much warmer, rounder sound - probably too much bass and mid
response for my personal taste, so I rolled the lows off more
than I usually would. Still, much sweeter and more full than before.
It has much more power than previously. The first thing I noticed
was how loud it was when the volume pedal was only about 1/4 on.
There's a lot more volume and power in reserve, so right foot
technique needs a little modification as well. The sustain is
also drastically improved. I had thought that sustain is primarily
the function of the guitar - mass, materials and so on - but the
notes ring and ring, and the harmonics sound like bells. The sliding
harmonics - what Jeff Newman used to call "shooting arrows"
- are like a weapon. I can now do those high-range John Hughey
kinds of things because the sustain and clarity are consistant
at all frets. But the most remarkable difference is the enhanced
string separation. The notes all ring out so clearly and well
defined that where I used to be able to coast by with adequate
right hand technique, I'm gonna have to clean it up because the
mistakes jump out too. So what was once an ordinary, flat, boxy,
solid-state 400 is now a ringing, singing tone machine. Tone may
ultimately be a function of the hands, but good equipment helps.
This little aid is gonna improve my playing. Remarkable, and well
worth the price.

John,
All I have to say is thank you for selling your product!!! My
Nash 400 sounds ten times better. That midrange problem is gone.
Keep up the great work.

Mr. LeMay,
Received my amp back from you yesterday and just put it back in
the cabinet. The sound is fantastic!!!! Thank you so much for
your effort and the professional manner in which you did business
with me. I would highly recommend your product to anyone. I am
very pleased!!!
Thank you again for everything.
Best regards,

Hello from Norway.
I have just bought an old Session 500 in the US, and are waiting
to get it to Norway soon. I also own a Nashville 400, which I
have modified using your kit ordered from you about a year ago.
I'm really satisfied with my Nash now after having modified it!!
When I get my "new" Session 500, I will order a mod
kit from you on that as well.
Thanks in advance - from Norway.

Hello John,
I've been a Master Electronics & Communications Tech and Broadcast
Engineer (1st Class) for the past 35 years. I installed the Super
Mod kit in my Nashville 400 last night. WOW!! That mod is fantastic!
It sounds like a $1000 amp now! I'd recommend this amp mod to
anyone who owns a Peavey! Many thanks!

Hi John, just wanted you to know I installed the kit and my Nashville 400 sounds great! The honky harsh stuff is gone and its crystal clear. My LeGrande III now sounds like I want it to sound when the stage volume level is up. The tone cuts really clean on the high mids and high end and the notes have the separation I've been looking for. Thanks for a great product.

Hello John thank you for the Super Mod
kit for my Nashville 400 and Profex every thing is working just
perfect. What a sound, clean rich sustaining tone, you can hear
all the strings clean and clear, it's like having a new steel
guitar a new amplifier and a new Profex, thank you very much John.

John,
It's in and working! My Session 500 sounds great at home. I am
sure the biggest difference will be out on a gig but I have not
been playing these last few years so I don't know when I will
get to try that part out. It was a challenge putting in the kit
but I enjoyed it and now the amp sounds much better and weighs
4.5 lbs less (it's still a real boat anchor because of that cabinet
and the remaining transformer). Thanks again for all your time
and effort in coming up with this kit and making it available
at what I think is a very reasonable price.

John,
I received my mod kit for my ProFex II on Tuesday and promptly
installed it. I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how
great I thought it was. I've been happy with my ProFex II and
didn't think I would have much of a need for a mod kit. I was
on the Steel Guitar Forum and read posts from people just RAVING
about how great it made their ProFex's sound. Like I said, I have
been happy with mine and didn't think it could sound much better.
Boy was I wrong. Your mod kit took a good thing and made it GREAT.
Well, I won't go on and on as I'm sure you've heard all this before,
but I wanted to let you know that I am thrilled with the improvement
in my ProFex due to your kit.
Thanks again,
Dave Alfstad
I have to agree with all of the other testimonials I've seen for the Nashville 400 Mod. I installed it last week and the change is phenomenal! Thanks for the RELIEF!

John:
I had a chance to use my system with the Profex II modification
Saturday night. I don't need to tell you the difference it made.
I am very pleased with the sound I had. I was working in a log
building with very poor acoustics and the system still demanded
respect. Thanks for the help.

After enjoying the mod on my Profex II
so much, I just finished modding a Session 500 (it got a new speaker
too) and a brand new Nashville 400. The Nashville had the Peavey
Mod, however the LeMay Mod still did something great to it, it
took that zzing out of the 3rd string...good!

I just got the super mod installed in
my Session 400 LTD. It has to be heard to be believed! That nasally
honking is gone. The amp is very warm, but without any muddiness
at all--very clear, great string separation. I've got a whole
new amp!
Thanks, John!

I'm a poor choice as far as a technician
on electronics go, but I know what my ear hears. I've had my ProFex
II and both of my Nashville 400 amps modified by John Lemay. It
was worth every cent and then some. I highly recommend the "Mod"
to anyone on any piece of equipment that that is acceptable to
John's modifications. He's the best and his mods are unbelievably
good.

Please send me another Super Mod kit for
a Session 500. You installed one at the Texas Jamboree in Dallas.
I just love it! You made a new player out of me! I still can't
believe the sound and sustain I'm getting out of it. You have
a super product!
Thanks Again

I recently replaced the capacitors in
my 74 and 76 Session 400s with John's parts kits. Excellent results.
I didn't realize how weak my preamp was. The output has twice
as much power and it's super clean.
Thanks John,

Hi John !
WOW !! I am, "ever-so", glad that I visited your Web
page. Your site is excellent in content & video. Being an
owner of an aged Session 500, what a great New Year's gift of
the Free Session 500 mod. I installed the modification today and
I am amazed at the difference it has made in the Amp. Your instructions
were very explicit & easy to follow, making the project of
the modification an enjoyable experience. You're right I LIKE
the results!
I cannot stop at this point, I must have the Super Mod Kit for
the Session 500. Thanks for the download of the Order Form. I
think you have just saved me from buying a new amp. Order going
off tomorrow.!!

Hello John,
I have modified my Nashville 400 with the parts you have send
me. Everything I have read about the mod is true, such as more
gain, more bass, beautiful highs, mids are great. It is more a
warm sound.
I am glad that I have done it and I will recommend your mod to
every one here in The Netherlands that are playing with a Peavey
400 series amp.
Thanks again,
Sincerely,

John:
I installed the modification kit into the Profex II and could
not believe my ears. The sound is so clean and crisp. It is like
night and day difference. This is a superb modification that everyone
who uses a Profex should have. I will be upgrading my other three
Profex in the near future.Again, thank you for the great "new"
sound and your prompt and courteous service.
Kindest Regards

John,

Hello John,
Just a note to let you know that I now have the Super Mod installed
in my amp (Nashville 400). I must say I am delighted. The Bass
is great and the highs real smooth. What a difference! Gone is
that Peavey harshness. I will certainly be recommending it to
the lads here in Ireland and in the U.K.
Thank you for your advice and prompt service
Yours Sincerely

John,
Your Mod on my Nashville 400 is better than I had ever hoped.
It is awesome. Thanks for all you do.
Good Luck,

Hello John,
This is my third Peavey Nashville 400 for your Super Mod. I can't
say enough about the mod in that it makes the 400 breathe and
open up the way I do when I use my inhaler when I'm having an
asthma attack! I also want to order the remote reverb device that
clamps on the leg of my steel guitar. Please find enclosed my
check.

John,
I am very pleased with my Nashville 400 amp it has never sounded
so good. The increase in gain is a much welcomed improvement.
The bright switch feature is the icing on the cake. I am glad
there is someone who cares enough about tone to take the time
and trouble to develop such a wonderful process. Keep up the good
work.

OK John,
I've held off letting you know how the mod worked (Nashville 400)
as I wanted to give it a good test. After getting the kit, I took
it to a local player/repairman and had him put it in. Took him
about 2 hours.
Played a gig in a small room that week (couple nights) and then
this past week in a huge venue. 2 different rooms, 2 different
sound systems. It played incredibly. Our sound man on the gig
this week was also the engineer on the CD project last year. Very
capable. He was extremely complimentary on the sound/tone.
I also took it too a club where a good friend of mine (Gary Carpenter)
had 2 other N-400's on stage and put it up there for him to try.
He was astounded.
Therefore, I am now going to sell my Tubefex/DPC-1000/Pacific
cabinets, if you know anyone who may be interested. I will be
posting it as well. I will probably also sell my Evans, which
I have had for the last 14 years. It's got a JBL E-130 in it,
which I may try in the N'ville 400, just for grins.
Thanks again.
Danny
Hi, John:
I got the Session 500 SuperMod kit in Friday's mail. I was away
all weekend, so I didn't get at the installation until tonight.
The kit was extremely easy to install, given your very clear instructions.
I took my time, and everything went well. Then I sat down to play,
and wow!! It's everything they claim it to be! I feel as if I
have a new amplifier! The tone is terrific, and I seem to have
much more gain (is that normal or was there possibly something
amiss before the upgrade? I had no distortion or other apparent
problems). I typically use a Goodrich Steel Driver II, and the
system even sounds great without it now! I'm just so pleased!!
best regards

Hi John:
I took my ProFex/DPC750 setup to a friend's house and we set up
an A-B comparison to check out the mods you recently did to my
ProFex. My friend has an identical setup except of course, his
ProFex does not have your mod in it. Using the same equipment
and the same patches, we sat for a while and listened while we
switched back and forth. I must say that my rig sounded clearer
and brighter than his, and both of us agreed. I am very happy
with my rig now since your mod seems to bring out the midrange
and "presence". It sounds excellent and I think my friend
will be getting in touch with you to have his done as well.
Thanks again for the prompt service.
I'm a satisfied customer!

John:
Thanks a million ! I'll look forward to firing it up for some
more great sound. I still can't believe the difference in these
Nashville 400s. It's the sound I've been looking for all these
years.

Hey John,
Got my Profex II back and it sounds great!! The Vegas amps you
did for me are getting killer tone!
Thanks!!
Dyke Corson
"Just got my Nashville 400 back together
after John's SuperMod. I've never heard a better sounding amp
of it's class. Everything is better - sustain, tone, string separation.
When you tune "the beats out", it sounds like the volume
goes up a notch. From now on this is the amp I'm taking on 1 or
two nighters. I highly recommend John's Mod to everyone."
Thanks John.
Dave Little
"David, I totally agree with everything
you stated about John's Super Mod. I received my Nashville 400
last week and really like the sound. I had previously had John
modify my Session 400 Ltd. and really liked the work he did on
it. I also have an Evans Amp with a JBL that I play, and I like
the sound of the Super Mod as well as the Evans. I think most
steel players that want that bite and edge would like John's Super
Mod."

"John did a great job on my Vegas
400. It totally transformed the sound of the amp. I also replaced
the Black Widow 1502 with a 4 ohm JBL, and I now have one of the
best sounding steel guitar amps I've ever heard. I get a great
guitar sound out of it too."
Jerry Gleason
"I have the FIRST SUPER MOD. Clean
and clear, in your face real steel tone finally. I am a tone freak
pure and simple. This is clean, like no other amp you have ever
heard. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain."
Larry Behm
Hello John,
I just wanted to let you know that the
Vegas sounds great. I took it out for the first time last night.
I missed that amp when it wasn't working. I'm really glad to have
it back, and sounding better than before! I'll help spread the
word.

Hi John:
I just wanted to let you know that the Session 500 really sounds
great!!! I used it this weekend. For the first time, "It's
all there". From the highest to lowest strings, I can actually
hear the individuality, rather than a composite mush. I'm extremely
happy with the highs and lows. I'm a happy camper. Thanks so much.
Marty Winn
I installed the mod a few weeks ago and
tried it out on the last 2 gigs. It make a big difference! I would
highly recommend it to anyone who has the Profex.

John,
The first Nashville 400 amp you did for me was super, the best
I've ever heard. I'm getting ready to send you the second amp
probably this week. I'm looking forward to the second amp as I'm
sure it will be as good or better than the first. I've had nothing
but great comments and praise on the first amp that you did for
me.
Thanks again!

Hi John:
Just a note to let you know I got the Session 400 LTD mod kit
and installed it a couple of weeks ago. Worked out great, the
amp does sound noticeably better. I was having a lot of problems
with a sort of harshness to the sound especially on strings 2
& 3, that's gone now and the string separation is better also.
I used the amp Saturday night at a casual gig and it sounded really
good, we had a guest sound man and he commented on the great signal
coming from the amp balanced out to the board - he was really
enjoying the sound of my rig.
